Riot cops swoop on dealers in Thornton Heath drug bust
Riot officers swooped on a betting shop in Thornton Heath on Tuesday after a tip-off drug dealers were using the store.
Around 40 territorial support group (TSG)officers, undercover CID officers and local safer neighbourhood teams (SNT)stormed into the shop at 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.
Acting on local intelligence, suggesting the premises were being used by dealers to peddle their drugs, the officers launched an undercover investigation.
More than 10 people were detained inside the shop while specialist drugs officers and sniffer dogs searched them.
Sergeant Dan Atkins from Thornton Heath SNT said: “We launched the operation after receiving information from the local community that drug dealers were operating around the shop.
“If we get information we will act on it and as today shows we are committed to making Croydon safe for all its residents.”
